CHARLOTTE AMALIE, St. Thomas – Alejandro Vasquez scored a game-high 25 points and Yaxel Lendeborg added 20, leading a cast of five UAB players to reach double figures in scoring as the Blazers (4-4) staged a furious second-half rally to post an 98-86 win over Louisiana (1-6) and secure a seventh-place finish at the 2024 Paradise Jam.
There were nine ties and eight lead changes in a closely-contested opening half. Neither team was able to take more than a five-point advantage in the opening half, with the Ragin’ Cajuns taking a two-point (44-42) lead into the half.
In the second half, the Louisiana offense took charge and the Ragin’ Cajuns pushed the lead to as many as eight on two different occasions, but the Blazers would not go quietly, pulling back to within one point (67-66) with just under 10 minutes to go, and eventually using a 10-0 run to push ahead by eight (81-73) with 5:04 to play and force a Louisiana timeout.
The Blazers continued their red-hot offense, pushing the lead into double figures and taking as much as a 15-point (93-78) lead with 1:58 to play.
UAB returns home for its next contest on Monday, Dec. 1, facing off against Middle Tennessee while Louisiana returns to action Saturday at home against Nicholls.
